Waiting

Stardust fine art print by Sea Lily Studio

I love the beautiful poem, Waiting, by John Burroughs .
How lovely is the last stanza?

The stars come nightly to the sky;
The tidal wave unto the sea;
Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high,
Can keep my own away from me.

In this busy world, we don't take enough time to enjoy poetry. Every now and then, I love to sit down and ponder words and thoughts shared by gifted writers.

Do you have a favorite poem or poet?
I'd love to know.

  1. Some of my favorite books are poetry collections. One of the first books I bought while visiting my oldest sister at Kent State for "Lil Sibs Weekend. It was a collection of children's verse - a lot of Stevenson. In high school I fell in love with Emily Dickinson. I recently put it by my bedside because I realize I hadn't read poetry in a long time. I bought my daughter a Poetry book to take to school - when she has snatches of time. My son has to memorize a poem for English. Recently he memorized Robert Frost's "Stopping Be the Woods on a Snowy Evening".

  2. I agree that in this day and age we don't take the time to enjoy the beautiful words of poets. I really don't have a favorite but love many poets when I do take the time. Thank you for the beautiful reminder!
